This classic from Riley Pucket was recorded on Montgomery Ward # 4506 and Bluebird #5587. It was later reissued on County #411 Waitin For the Evening Mail. Other early versions appear on Brunswick # 536 by Frank Luther and Carson Robison; Regal #MR 433 by theCarson Robison Trio; Columbia # 15627-D by Robison-Luther-Crow; and Victor # 23504 and HMV # 3886 by the Phil Crow Trio.
It has been suggested to me by several individuals (Barb Kuhns and Lightnin' Wells via Libby Hicks) that the song may have been written by Carson Robison, though Riley failed to credit anyone for the song on his recording.
