Jeff Smith short story Flatwater Holler - March 10, 2008
I received a call from an old friend last Friday. Jeff Smith and I worked together a few years back in a collaborative project based on his book-
Where The Roots Reach for Water. He read parts of his book interpersed with traditional Appalachian music. We performed this program twice. Once was at the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling. The other time was at the Ashland Arts Center in Ashland, Ohio. Jeff said that he's been listening to That Lonesome Road as part of his inspiration for this story.
If that was not honor enough, I appear as a character in the story. In case you are curious-the character is a bearded musician named Bob who sings songs like "Shady Grove" and "Wayfaring Stranger". The story is a work in progress. I'm interested to see how it all turns out.

Mountain Moon Coffeehouse 3/1/08 - March 2, 2008
Last night was a real treat for me to share the stage with some great musicians at the Mountain Moon Coffeehouse in Wheeling.
Tom Hampton(Peach) and Greg Dearth who played in The Hutchison Brothers Band in the 1970's were the featured performers at last night's show. My good friend, Jim Simpson, and I joined in to play a few with these fellows. We finished our portion of the set with a J.D.Hutchison song "Ain't I Been Good to You?"
The Hutchison Brothers were the band of choice in this neck of the woods during the mid-70's. Peach and Greg are both excellent musicians who were an integral part of the band then and are still wonderful musicians and really nice people to boot.
